What
Every Buyer Should Know
What
is the MLS?
The
Multiple Listing Service, or MLS, is a databse where Real
Estate Agents and REALTORS list homes for sale. Only licensed
agents are permitted to access this system to enter or alter
data in the database. The MLS is the single most important
way for Buyers to find out what homes are on the market.
The
agent on Eric Stewart's team you work with has 24 hour access
to the MLS. We use this tool every day to find new homes that
have just been listed in the system that match your criteria.
This is why it is so important to have an agent working for
you as a Buyer.
There
are other systems that tap into the data contained in the
MLS, like REALTOR.com, WashintonPost.com, HomesDatabase.com
and others. The problem with solely relying on these services
is that there is typically some level of delay for the data
to get passed from the MLS to these other services. So while
these websites are a good place to start your home buying
search, you will definatly want to work with an agent to get
you the most up to date information available. After all,
you don't want to miss that perfect home buying opportunity
because you are looking at a listing that is under contract.
